It is now considered typical to have the ‘firsts’ in Dubai, as we all know this city contains the world’s deepest pool at Deep Dive Dubai, the tallest building in history known as Burj Khalifa located in Dubai. The world’s highest 360-degree infinity pool, Aura Skypool, is in Dubai.
Furthermore, adding one more to the list of kudos, the largest vertical farm in the world, which produces over one million kg of pesticide-free produce and saves more than 250 million liters of water annually.
Situated near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, this farm plans to produce more the 1 million kilograms of best-quality leafy greens a year. By only using a small amount of water for crops and without soil. This process is much more eco-friendly than the traditional farming techniques.
This cultivation farm is named Bustanica. It is the world’s first vertical farm for the joint venture between Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC), Emirates Crop One and Crop one, with massive 330,000-square feet.
From July, we expect to see arugula, lettuces, spinach, and mixed salad greens on board flights. Soon, it is anticipated that Bustanica products will be available for us to purchase in the supermarkets in Dubai.
